Read all our latest news about our clients hunts, conferences we will be attending and more interesting news from Neville and Mt Cook Trophy Hunting in New Zealand.
Robert Sergi hunted with us May 2013 and had this to say;
“The tahr hunt with Neville Cunningham is unlike any other hunt you’ve been on.
It combines a heavy portion of adrenaline with the most ideal mountain views I have ever witnessed.
This hunt is so unique that I believe all hunters should take part in such an amazing experience.”
Thank you all for your support and following, we are looking forward to sharing our adventures with you over the next few months.
Rodney Smith from MS (USA) had a successful first day out taking down his first tahr.
For most who do not know, the Himalayan tahr is a large ungulate related to the wild goat. The tahr is native to the Himalayas in Southern Tibet, Northern India, and Nepal. It was introduced to New Zealand in the early days of European settlement and efforts are being made to control its population to reduce its impact on the native ecosystem.
Ronnie is in to ‘white’ animals and was thrilled to get a ‘white tahr’.
They also shot a stag and arapawa ram, tahr and chamois. It was a great week up at Mt Cook with a great couple of American’s from Texas. Thanks guys.
“When I met with Neville at the SCI convention in Tamworth Australia and we discussed a hunt, he said he would like to give me the whole NZ Hunt experience. Well he didn’t disappoint!
From the start the chopper flight in was a real eye opener with plenty of game sighted. The hunt area was truly beautiful but rugged terrain, something you have to see to appreciate.
It was a big day of walking and glassing with Neville and Brad showing their skills and patience at spotting game, all the hard work paying off with me taking a top quality Bull Tahr late in the day, something I am grateful for.
After capping out we still had a fair hike down to the pick up area, in the dark no less, but it didn’t matter, it was a great experience with great guides and the cold beer back at the lodge was a great finish to a truly unique day.
I highly recommend and will be back to hunt with Mt Cook Trophy Hunting.”
Jeffery Pritchard, Australia
Here’s some shots of Jeff with his tahr and viewing the magnificent scenery.
Carl Lawson is from Michigan in the USA and this year he spent a week with Mt Cook Trophy Hunting staying on-site at our Bison Lodge. He had a fab time as you can see from some photos below.
He also had this to say about his trip;
“I hunted with Mount Cook Trophy Hunting in March, 2013. This was the result of successfully bidding on a Tahr and Chamois hunt at the prior years Lansing Safari club auction.
Neville Cunningham, the owner, personally guides his clients and does his very best to ensure that you get the best animal available. While hunting for my red stag I had the opportunity to shoot several animals I considered very good but Neville assured me we could do better.
I was fortunate to shoot a red stag, tahr, arapawa ram, fallow deer, and an 8×8 elk.
In summary this is one of the most beautiful places I have ever hunted and getting the animals was just frosting on the cake.
After getting home I have told several people that this is one of the few places I would ever consider moving to.!!!”
We had a very successful show in Dallas and Reno and look forward to finalising some of the hunt plans for this year and 2014 with the contacts we have made and the wonderful people we met.

Tom and Bill from the USA joined us for a hunt in March and left with huge smiles and feelings of satisfaction going by what Bill had to say.
“My hunt with Mt Cook Trophy hunting was truly a hunt of a lifetime!! Neville and Nathan were awesome guides and hosts. We hunted hard but were rewarded with some exceptional trophies. I highly recommend hunting with MT Cook Trophy Hunting and Neville Cunningham if you want a true New Zealand adventure.”
Below are some photo from their time here including a great shot of Tom with his big, heavy timbered European style Red Stag trophy head. This Red Stag had been called ‘Phantom’ as he had eluded hunters for 3 years and was eventually taken this year in the early roar.
They also got to hunt chamois as can be seen in the photo with guides Nathan and Neville and assisted by Rob Kitto and Way to Go Helicopters.
Eric Roberts with his giant Red Stag (field measured 457). This was the heaviest timber taken at Mt Cook Trophy Hunting this season in the roar.
Eric was obviously pleased and had this to say;
Neville and Mount Cook Trophy Hunting provided me with a hunt of a lifetime. The accomodations were great, food was excellent and the fellowship was entertaining … I do recommend this hunt to anyone.
Eric F. Roberts, Fort Worth, TX.

March and the hunting season brought a couple of new hunts to the fore, and don’t forget that ladies are welcome too.
Nathan Askew from Bullet Safaris in the USA and Africa spent a month with Neville and as well as helping guide some hunters at Mt Cook Trophy Hunting, he also got in on the act too. Below are some random shots from during his visit. [click to enlarge]
